Sedation Dentistry in Antioch
Sedation dentistry is a technique used to relax and calm patients during dental procedures. It involves administering medications that can induce a state of drowsiness or light sleep, making the experience more comfortable and less stressful.
Methods of Administration:
- Oral sedation: Medications are taken in pill form known as Halcion before the procedure.
- Inhalation sedation: Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is inhaled through a mask.
- Intravenous (IV) sedation: Medications are injected directly into the bloodstream under oral surgeon’s complete supervision.
If you are afraid, anxious and uncomfortable at the time of your dental treatment then Sedation Dentistry would be helpful to you. You as the patient will have no memory of the dental treatment. This will lead the patient to think they were asleep during the treatment when, in reality, they were awake, but comfortable, at all times. During the procedure, monitoring devices will be attached to the patient by Oral Surgeon. These devices monitor the effectiveness of one's breathing pulse oximeter, blood pressure and heart rate, increasing the safety of the procedure.
